ONAM CELEBRATION
The Onam celebration organized by United College of Medical Sciences on August 30 at college campus was a vibrant and joyful event that brought together the entire community to honor Kerala’s most celebrated festival. The event commenced with the beautiful creation of Pookkalam (floral rangoli), where participants showcased their creativity and teamwork using colorful flowers in traditional designs. The day featured a variety of cultural performances, including Thiruvathira Kali, Onappattu, group dances, and skits that depicted the story of King Mahabali and the essence of Onam. Traditional Onam games such as Vadamvali (tug of war), lemon and spoon race and musical chairs were enthusiastically played, adding fun and energy to the celebration. A special highlight was the symbolic appearance of Maveli Mannan, bringing festive spirit and cheer to the audience. One of the most awaited moments of the day was the grand Onam Sadhya, a traditional vegetarian feast served on banana leaves, which was enjoyed by all participants. The event saw active involvement from students/staff/members, volunteers, and guests, reflecting a strong sense of unity and cultural pride. Positive feedback from attendees highlighted the success of the event in preserving and promoting Kerala’s rich traditions. The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving everyone with fond memories and a deepened appreciation for the cultural heritage of Onam. Special thanks are due to the organizing committee, volunteers, and management for their support and efforts in making this celebration a memorable one.
